Making a creator trailer that converts: the 7 rules
Why a trailer?
A visitor who lands on your profile decides within seconds whether to stay or leave. Until they subscribe, they see neither your posts nor your conversations with your community. They see a price, and they ask one question: is it worth it?
Your trailer answers that question before they pay. In under a minute, it shows your world, how often you publish and what the subscription actually includes. The more premium your offer, the more that proof matters.
The major creator platforms have all adopted this format. YouTube offers a channel trailer shown to visitors who are not yet subscribed. Patreon puts the introduction video at the centre of the creator page. Cameo treats it as the part of the profile to get right first. The principle is the same everywhere: people subscribe more readily to someone they have already seen and heard.
The 7 rules of a trailer that converts
1. Hook attention in the first 3 seconds
Do not open with a logo, an intro sequence or a "Hi everyone". Start with your strongest image, a direct question or a clear promise. If the first seconds do not hold the visitor, the rest will not be seen.
2. Say what subscribers receive
Be specific: your publishing rhythm ("three new releases a week"), your formats (videos, photos, behind the scenes, Q&A sessions) and what is reserved for subscribers. Visitors buy a precise promise, not a mood.
3. Show extracts rather than just talking
A talking head alone is not enough. Alternate your introduction with short extracts from your best content. Showing beats describing, and the visible quality of your work is what justifies the price.
4. Add burned-in subtitles
On FEELLO, the trailer starts muted, like most videos watched on mobile. Burn your subtitles into the picture: your message gets through even if the visitor never turns the sound on.
5. Shoot vertically, face clearly visible
Your visitors browse your profile on their phone. Shoot in vertical format, with light that shows your face clearly. Visitors subscribe to a person: they need to recognise you.
6. End with a call to subscribe
The last line matters as much as the first. Say clearly what you expect: "Subscribe to get the next release tonight." A convinced visitor must know exactly what to do.
7. You choose what you show, or what you blur
The trailer is visible to visitors who have not subscribed yet. You decide what you reveal and what you keep for your subscribers, including blurring some passages during editing. FEELLO plays your video exactly as you edited it, with no cropping or retouching.
The recommended structure: 15 to 60 seconds
This outline is inspired by YouTube's guidance for channel trailers. It adapts to any length.
| Moment | Goal | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 10 s | Say who your profile is for | A strong hook, then "If you love… you are in the right place." |
| 10 to 30 s | Say who you are | Your background in one sentence, your speciality, extracts of your best content |
| 30 to 45 s | Say what subscribers get, then invite them to subscribe | Publishing rhythm, exclusive formats, call to subscribe |
Beyond 45 seconds, keep room for one last strong extract and repeat the call to subscribe. For a short 15-second version, keep a hook, one extract and the final call.
How the trailer works on FEELLO
The trailer is designed to convince without ever replacing the subscription.
- Prime placement. Your trailer takes the first tile of your profile, at the top of your content grid. It is the first thing a non-subscribed visitor sees.
- Plays on demand. Nothing starts on its own: the video plays when the visitor taps the tile. Every play is intentional, from someone genuinely interested in you.
- Free for signed-in visitors. A FEELLO account is all it takes to watch it. Each trailer becomes an opportunity to bring a new visitor on board.
- A limited number of plays. A visitor can watch it a few times, not endlessly. They have seen it, they want more, and more is in your subscription.
- High definition stays reserved for your subscribers. The trailer is delivered in reduced quality. Your subscribers keep the full experience, and your exclusivity is preserved.
- Your protection stays on. Like every media delivered on FEELLO, the trailer carries the watermark that protects your work.
- Up to 60 seconds. Longer videos are rejected rather than cut, so your final call to subscribe is never truncated.
Before publishing: the checklist
- Do the first 3 seconds make people want to see more?
- Does the visitor know what they will receive, and how often?
- Does the video include extracts of your best content?
- Is the message clear without sound?
- Is your face clearly visible, in vertical format?
- Does the video end with a call to subscribe?
- Are you comfortable with everything it shows?
